After serving in the Navy during the Vietnam conflict, in 1974, Richard Collins began his career in the mechanical/plumbing construction trades. In 1979, Richard founded Collins Plumbing Inc. (CPI) where he was determined to build a company whose reputation for consistency, quality work, and fair and equitable pricing would the standard by which others were judged. Richard has never compromised on these principles and remains one of San Diego’s most respected and requested plumbing contractors, with vast expertise in new construction ¡¡ìC both public and private sectors – through design/build, competitive bid and negotiated contract.
In 2007 CPI adopted an employee stock ownership plan (ESOP), allowing employees who have dedicated their working careers to CPI, to participate in ownership of the company.
Collins Plumbing Customer List includes people in the public and private sector-general contractors, sewer and water municipalities, and the city, state and federal governments.
Public projects Collins Plumbing has done include the San Diego County Emergency Communications Center, the Point Lorna and South Bay Waste Water Treatment Plants, the Camp Pendleton Physical Fitness Center, Miramar Cogeneration Plant, and the Fleet Tactical Support OT3. The Reuben H. Fleet Space and Science Center, Qualcomm Buildings, The Hall of Champions, Target Stores, Viejas Retail Outlets, and Harbor Lights Resort are part of a vast number of private clients on the Collins Plumbing list.
Some of Collins Plumbing Design-Build clients include Sony Warehouse, Clairemont Town Square Police Service and the Coors Amphitheatre. Our designers interface with architects and contractors, so that it meets or exceeds code and need expectations. The company’s extensive experience gives it the insight to find creative solutions to meet capacity needs.
Collins Plumbing is highly active in the trade, keeping abreast of the changes in the industry in order to maintain an extremely competitive edge. Mr. Collins strongly believes in providing ongoing training as well as training to improve skills. New employees are encouraged to participate in a paid, four-year program, which teaches them the skills needed to become journeymen.
Mr. Collins is so committed to making continuing education available to those in the construction industry that he has served on both the Advisory Committees for the Regional Occupational Project (ROP) and the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Journeyman Training Program and has been the Chairman of the Education Committees for PHCC.
